GREW Solar secures MNRE approval for 2.4 GW TOPCon cell capacity – Power Peak Digest

GREW Solar has received approval to include 2,407 MW of N-Type TOPCon G12R solar PV cell manufacturing capacity at its Narmadapuram, Madhya Pradesh facility under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s (MNRE) Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II for N-Type TOPCon Solar PV Cells.
The company said the approval is a step in its commitment to supporting India’s efforts to build a domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem. It added that as the country accelerates its clean energy transition, stronger indigenous cell manufacturing has become essential for energy security, supply-chain resilience and long-term manufacturing self-reliance.
Cell technology
Solar cells are the core building blocks of photovoltaic modules and play a critical role in determining the efficiency, reliability and long-term performance of solar projects. GREW Solar said that as India advances towards its renewable energy targets and the vision of Viksit Bharat, advanced cell technologies such as N-Type TOPCon can enable higher-efficiency solar solutions and strengthen India’s position in the global solar industry.
The company noted that the ALMM framework promotes quality, reliability and traceability across India’s solar sector. It said the inclusion of cell manufacturers under ALMM List-II further supports an integrated solar value chain and gives greater visibility on approved manufacturing capacity.
Management comment
Vinay Thadani, Director and CEO, GREW Solar, said: “The ALMM List-II approval for our 2.4GW N-Type TOPCon G12R cell manufacturing capacity is an important milestone. It reflects our dedication to advancing India’s solar growth journey and presents a significant opportunity to build world-class production capabilities alongside renewable energy deployment. Our state-of-the-art Solar PV cell manufacturing facility reflects our support for the nation’s vision of a sustainable energy future, technological advancement, and innovation. Strengthening domestic cell production abilities will be necessary for ensuring a robust solar industry for years to come.”
ALMM capacity
With the latest MNRE update, India’s enlisted solar cell manufacturing capacity under ALMM List-II is heading towards 45 GW. Besides GREW Solar, Ampin Solar One Pvt Ltd has been added with Mono-PERC capacity, and Avaada Electro Ltd has added close to 3 GW, taking its total to 7,117 MW, all of it TOPCon.
Avaada leads the list, followed by Waaree Energies Ltd at 5,349 MW (1,328 MW PERC and 4,021 MW TOPCon) and TP Solar Ltd at 4,533 MW. GREW Solar’s 2,407 MW is part of an 8 GW cell manufacturing plan at its Narmadapuram facility.
