China Energy International Group today (1 November) expressed interest in investing in a solar power plant at Payra Port.
The interest was expressed during a meeting between a delegation of the company and State Minister for Shipping and Bridges Division Md Rajib Ahsan at the conference room of the ministry this morning, according to a press release.
During the meeting, the delegation said the company has extensive experience in developing large-scale energy infrastructure and constructing power plants in China.
Welcoming the company’s interest, the state minister said Payra Port was expanding day by day. He said effective initiatives were also needed to meet the growing energy demand alongside the development of the port’s infrastructure and enhancement of its capacity.
“The government has always encouraged foreign investment in the country’s power and energy sector. The incumbent Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is very sincere in this regard,” he said.
He further said Payra Port was an important national installation and that its security must be given the highest priority.
The state minister also stressed the need to ensure that all investment and development activities were carried out in line with national interests, security considerations and relevant policies.
The chairman of the Payra Port Authority and senior officials of the Ministry of Shipping were also present at the meeting.
