White House promotes T1 Energy's Texas solar manufacturing push ahead of supply chain ruling – pv magazine USA

The White House X account (formerly known as Twitter) reposted a message from T1 Energy on October 28. The post from T1 Energy talked up the administration’s visit to Texas, their continued support, and pointed out the company’s two Texas facilities:
“T1 is building G2_Austin, an advanced photovoltaic manufacturing facility in Texas, with an estimated 2.1 GW Phase 1 capital expenditure in excess of $500 million. G2_Austin is expected to create an estimated 1,500 high-paying advanced manufacturing jobs with a $120 million payroll in Milam County, Texas, while helping to reshore a critical industry.”
Breitbart and other media accounts in the White House’s orbit also talked up the T1 Energy post, and the retweet on X.
T1 Energy has shown the ability to stay in the administration’s view. In May of 2025, the manufacturer was in Saudi Arabia with administration officials talking about investment needs for the G2 solar cell facility.
About a year ago in Washington DC, T1’s CEO and administration officials met to talk about the company.
On October 22, T1 Energy announced it received a waiver from the Department of Commerce to allow the company to import up to 1.725 GW of solar cells to supply its module assembly operations in Wilmer, Texas, just south of Dallas. These waivers became necessary after the U.S. Department of Commerce issued an emergency rule to head off a pre-Section 232 December 4 tariff import surge across the solar supply chain. Commerce has enacted strict monitoring and volume caps on foreign polysilicon, wafers, cells, and modules entering the country.
The administration also showed support for First Solar at an October 28 plant opening ceremony. The U.S. Commerce Secretary noted, “We need power across all of the possibilities. We love natural gas, we love oil, we love solar, we love coal also. All four need to power America.”
