Merredin plant tops Rystad’s utility PV performance table – pv magazine Australia

New data from global energy consultancy Rystad Energy shows that all Australian large-scale solar power plants generated 5,100 GWh of clean energy last month, down 2% on the 5,200 GWh produced in October 2025 with Western Australia home to two of the top three best-performing utility PV assets for the month.
The 100 MW Merredin Solar Farm, owned Indonesian PV developer Sun Energy, was ranked Australia’s top-performing big PV facility for the month with Rystad Senior Analyst David Dixon noting the power plant had delivered an average AC capacity factor (CF) of 35% for the month.
Spanish energy giant Naturgy’s 128 MW Cunderdin Solar Farm ranked second for the month with the Western Australian facility delivering an average capacity factor of 32%.
Pacific Partnerships’ 102 MW Glenrowan Solar Farm in Victoria was ranked third with a capacity factor of 32% while stages one and two of Acen Australia’s 400 MW Stubbo solar project in New South Wales (NSW) were ranked fourth and fifth respectively.
Dixon said all Australian utility-scale PV and wind assets generated 5.1 TWh of clean energy last month, a 2% decrease on the 5.2 TWh generated in October 2025.
At a state level, Victoria was the biggest single contributor to the month’s total, generating 290 GWh from utility-scale solar and 1,130 GWh from wind – a total of 1,420 GWh.
The top wind assets for the month were the Flat Rocks (48% CF) and Warradarge (47% CF) wind farms in Western Australia, with the Clarke Creek stage 1b (44% CF) wind farm in Queensland third.
Dixon highlighted that on a trailing 12-month basis, the number of hours of negative prices and curtailed utility solar and wind generation are both beginning to decline as utility battery capacity comes online.
He said this trend is expected to continue over the next 24 months as the National Electricity Market (NEM) utility battery fleet grows from the current 26 GWh to almost 60 GWh by end 2028.
Dixon also noted that gas generation for October totalled 426 GWh in the National Electricity Market (NEM), the lowest for the month of October since the NEM began.
