Rooftop solar installations year-on-year to October up 41% – pv magazine Australia

The latest monthly update from market analyst SunWiz shows 304.8 MW of new rooftop solar capacity was registered across Australia in October 2026, up 1.07% or 3.2 MW on September (301.MW).
It is the second straight gain after an 11.5% August dip to 285 MW and the strongest October of the previous four years, about 16% above October 2025 (262 MW), with Victoria posting the largest gain, up 10.8% followed by Western Australia (WA) (+5.3%) and New South Wales (NSW) up 4.5%.
All other states fell, led by the Northern Territory (-17.1%), then the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) (-9.1%), Queensland (-7.7%), SA (-5.8%) and TAS (-2.8%).
NSW was the overall leader installing 89.9 MW, ahead of Queensland on 75.8 MW and Victoria on 60.2 MW, with NSW’s lead over Queensland widening from about 4 MW to 14 MW.
“The January-October tally of 3,138 MW is the highest on record, running 41% ahead of the same point in 2025,” SunWiz managing director Warwick Johnston said.
Johnston added there has been moves in opposite directions as commercial market waits to register 1 MW small-scale technology certificates (STCs), where NSW, Victoria and WA posted growth, and all other states and territories declined in commercial volumes above 50 kW.
“15-20 kW posted the standout gain, up 6.7% (about +3.0 MW), followed by 20-30 kW (+5.2%), 30-50 kW (+2.7%) and 0-15 kW (+1.0%), though the larger commercial bands saw a downward trend, with 75-100 kW down 42% and 50-75 kW down 24%,” Johnston said.
“The 10-15 kW band remains the backbone of the market at 115.8 MW, more than double 6-8 kW (49.7 MW) and 15-20 kW (47.4 MW). Combined 20-100 kW volume fell to 32.3 MW from 35 MW, the lowest October of the four years shown and about 25% below 2023-2025 (42-43 MW).”
Johnston said the national average system size rose to 10.05 kW from 9.88 kW, back above 10 kW for the first time since April but still below April’s 11.75 kW and December’s 12.10 kW.
