Rooftop solar arrays are increasingly being fitted with power optimizers, microinverters and similar hardware that call for extra room under the panels. S-5! created the PVKIT 3.0 mounting solution to meet that requirement, offering added clearance for cable routing, module-level power electronics (MLPE) and wiring access. When extra clearance is unnecessary, the standard configuration lets modules sit closer to the roof surface.
Rob Haddock, CEO and founder of S-5!, said the PVKIT 3.0 was engineered to give designers and installers more control over the gap between the roof and the solar panels. He noted that choosing between a standard configuration and an integrated 50 mm clearance makes it simpler to accommodate various wiring, electronic component and related equipment needs while preserving the simplicity of a rail-less mounting system.
Covered by a lifetime warranty, the PVKIT 3.0 pairs with S-5! clamps and brackets to create a complete DirectAttach mounting system for metal roofs. According to the manufacturer, on standing-seam and concealed-fastener roofs the system delivers non-penetrating attachment without compromising roof integrity.
The standard configuration fits PV modules with frame thicknesses of 28 mm to 35 mm, while the integrated clearance option accommodates frames from 25 mm to 35 mm.
S-5! states that the PVKIT 3.0 cuts mounting system weight, volume and carbon footprint by as much as 85% versus conventional rail-based systems, while needing significantly fewer components. The company also claims a 25% reduction in load distribution, and the rail-less design removes the need for on-site rail cutting, potentially lowering transportation and logistics costs.
The PVKIT 3.0 arrives pre-assembled and can be installed with a single tool, cutting the number of components and hardware that installers must transport, organize and handle on the roof. Stainless steel grounding teeth deliver electrical continuity and grounding between PV module frames, and the system includes corrosion-resistant components built for long-term performance under demanding rooftop conditions.
