Cox, a Spain-based water and energy utility, has agreed a programme worth an estimated $2.9 billion with the Government of El Salvador. The programme has been built on four alliances, and the first of them covers grid-connected BESS with an initial capacity of 440 MWh to 500 MWh. That storage can later be expanded to 1 GWh. Under the second alliance, two solar PV plants of an estimated 200 MW, which can be expanded to 400 MW, are to be developed with the state commission CEL. The third alliance covers an LNG regasification terminal and a combined-cycle plant of about 380 MW, while the fourth covers water and sanitation. Cox is to structure the financing through project finance, and the work is to be carried out over the next three years, subject to approvals.
