The state government-owned Gujarat Power Corporation Ltd (GPCL) is not providing details of the land deals for its ambitious Charanka solar power project in Patan district, alleged a petitioner, Farsu Goklani, Congress leader from Radhanpur.
He sought details of various issues related to the project under the RTI Act. On Tuesday the GPCL informed the Gujarat high court that it has provided details sought by the petitioner as per the order of the chief information commissioner (CIC). However, Goklani’s lawyer said the corporation has furnished details that were not asked for.
“The GPCL has given details regarding the soil testing report of the project which was never demanded by us under RTI Act. We sought details about land deals of the project,” said Zubin Bharda, counsel for Goklani. The CIC, who was made a party in the petition, has sought time to file a reply and matter has been adjourned to next month.
On August 17, Goklani had written to principal secretary of energy and petrochemicals department alleging corruption of Rs 400 crore in awarding contracts in the project and other irregularities. The letter claimed that local politicians acquired land at throwaway prices and sold it to GPCL at higher rates.
