The Government has stipulated certain technical measures to ensure quality of the PV modules used in Solar power projects taken up under different Central schemes of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM).
During last 3 years and current year since launch of the JNNSM, 148 grid-connected solar power plants of 551 MW aggregate capacity have been commissioned under Central schemes. Out of these, nearly 77 projects of 391 MW aggregate capacity or nearly 70% of total SPV panels installed, are using foreign solar cells/ modules. Country-wise information is not readily available.
The Government has not made any estimate in this regard as the imports are made by mainly private solar power developers for their plants and are governed by market forces.
