Town of Chenango Board Votes Unanimously in Favor of Moratorium Regarding Solar Projects
After months of discussion and public outreach, the town of chenango board voted unanimously in favor of a solar moratorium at tonight’s board meeting.
The proposed solar project is headed up by Cipriani Energy Group and is designated to be built in the vicinity of Morningside Heights, Chenango Shores, and near Hider Park.
Many residents are in opposition to the solar farm and have already voiced their opinions during previous public hearing opportunities.
Residents say they are concerned about the potential impacts the solar farm would have on water drainage and flooding, property values, and the residential neighborhoods during the construction of the facility.
Although the moratorium is only a 12-month delay on the project, residents who oppose the project say it’s a win for the community.
Town of Chenango Resident Donna Russen said, “I’m not against solar farms. Our group isn’t. It’s just that they should be in the right position, hopefully on buildings, but maybe on farmland where there’s gravel. They did an environmental study, you know, on-site visit. It was kind of a joke. And the hydraulic study is on hold because Ciprianni put everything on hold right now, with the moratorium doesn’t mean they’re going away. They’ll be back. So we’re just keeping vigilant and working with the town board for the best for Morningside Heights.”
