Construction work can restart on the 95-percent-complete Vineyard Wind 1 offshore wind farm after the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts issued a decision to allow full activities to resume in the Vineyard Wind lease area on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf. This is the fourth of the five offshore wind projects under construction in the U.S. that were paused to be granted the relief. Ørsted’s Sunrise Wind is still subject to the suspension, with a hearing date set for February 2.
Solar, wind, and batteries are set to supply virtually all net new U.S. generating capacity in 2026, according to EIA data reviewed by the SUN DAY Campaign, continuing their strong 2025 growth. EIA’s latest monthly “Electric Power Monthly” report (with data through November 30, 2025), once again confirms that solar is the fastest-growing among the major sources of U.S. electricity.
Developers of a new pumped storage hydropower installation in Washington state said the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has issued an operating license for the project. Rye Development and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners on January 22 said FERC gave the go-ahead for the Goldendale Energy Storage Project. The planned facility will be located on private land at the site of a former aluminum smelter near Goldendale, Washington.
Catalyze has secured tax equity financing to support its 100 MW U.S. solar project portfolio. The funds will support 18 community solar and rooftop C&I projects across New York, Illinois, California, and Virginia.
MGM Resorts is now harnessing the power of the sun to cover all of its daytime electricity needs at its Las Vegas Strip properties, a big step for sustainable operations in the glitzy heart of Nevada’s entertainment capital. This achievement comes as the Escape Solar and Storage Project, located in Lincoln County, became operational last month, providing a significant boost to MGM’s renewable energy initiatives.
The New York State Department of Public Service has issued a final siting permit for a solar facility in the town of Glen, New York. The Mill Point Solar I Project is expected to contribute 250 MW to the state’s electric grid.
