Germany’s GIZ Libya reported yesterday that an 8.8 kWp (kilowatt peak) solar photovoltaic (PV) system was inaugurated at the Ministry of Environment’s Headquarters in Janzur, Tripoli, with support from the Sustainable Transition, Energy and Environmental Partnership (STEP).
The ceremony included the official activation of the system and a rooftop visit showcasing its technical features and environmental benefits.
Attendees included: Ibrahim Mounir, Minister of Environment, Kathrin Oellers, Head of Division North Africa & Mediterranean, German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Jan Mattke, Programme Attaché, European Union and Kirsten Garaycochea, Head of International Cooperation, German Embassy in Libya.
GIZ said the installation reflects the Ministry’s commitment to renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions, and strengthening environmental protection, while serving as a lighthouse project for public institutions in Libya.
The event was conducted under the Sustainable Transition, Energy and Environmental Partnership (STEP), co-funded by the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and jointly implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the Office of the Prime Minister of Libya.
