Yakima County Commissioners are actively working towards an ordinance that would allow solar facilities on some farmland in Yakima County.
Many county residents showed up to last Tuesday's public hearing in support of the solar ordinance.
Commissioner LaDon Linde requested an amendment allowing agricultural land with an irrigation district under certain circumstances, with Commissioner Kyle Curtis sharing many of the same sentiments.
Commissioner Amanda McKinney voted 'no' as she worries that the use of solar energy on irrigated land could create opportunities for landowners to allow other uses on their farmland.
McKinney says that the board should seek more legal analysis before reaching a decision.
