Plans revealed to build 27 hectare solar farm on Cotswold farmland – Cotswold Journal

PLANS have been submitted to build a 27-hectare solar farm on Cotswold farmland.
The scoping application, submitted by Honington Energy Limited, would see more than 66 acres of farmland off Fell Mill Lane turned into a new solar farm.
Fell Mill Lane would be ‘upgraded’ to enable the construction of the site, which would have ‘an operational lifespan of 40 years’, security fencing, and CCTV mounted on poles.
Being a scoping application, the public are currently unable to comment, however, the applicants’ preferred route for construction traffic would see lorries not pass over Grade II listed Honington Bridge, but instead be routed through Shipston, over Shipston Bridge and up Fell Mill Lane.
Planning documents state: “The site is located south of Honington and north-east of Shipston-on-Stour, entirely within the jurisdiction of Stratford-on-Avon District Council and Honington Parish. The development area measures approximately 27 hectares
“The site is within a rural location and surrounded by agricultural land, and is utilised for agricultural farming.
“The proposal comprises the installation of a ground-mounted solar PV farm with a maximum generating capacity of approximately 25MW, including rows of up to 32,600 fixed-tilt PV panels mounted on frames, with a minimum height of 800mm, and a maximum height of 3300mm, 46 central string inverters, two transformer substations, and switchgear DNO/substation connection, internal access tracks, security fencing (typically deer fencing up to 2m) and CCTV mounted on poles.
“The operational lifespan is anticipated to be approximately 40 years, after which the site will be decommissioned and restored to its previous condition.”
Whilst more details will be revealed in a future application, a heritage impact assessment has already been undertaken and found ‘a feature that likely dates back to the Iron Age or Romano-British period’.
