Colombier invests in solar – Printweek

Boosts ESG credentials
Colombier UK has made a substantial investment in a roof-mounted solar power system that is expected to deliver commercial and sustainability benefits.
The printing and packaging papers supplier and conversion specialist worked with Noble Green Energy on the project, which has involved the installation of a solar photovoltaic system with a total capacity of 264.36 kWp.
It is expected to generate 262.25 MWh of renewable electricity a year, offsetting around 25% of the site’s energy consumption.
The solar setup will reduce Colombier UK’s carbon emissions by an estimated 47 tonnes per year. Installation was completed in January.
Managing director Kevin Dyer said the decision to make the “significant” investment had been driven by the demand for energy security, cost stability, and the associated improvements in environmental performance.
He commented: “Investing in solar energy is a natural step for Colombier UK and aligns directly with our commitment to responsible growth and sustainable operations.
“In today’s environment, energy security, cost management and strong ESG credentials are essential not only for our business but for our customers across the paper and packaging supply chain.
“This project strengthens our operational resilience, reduces our environmental impact and supports our customers’ ambitions to work with partners who share their sustainability goals. It represents a long-term investment in both our business and the future of our industry.”
The firm’s offering includes conversion of paper and packaging grades as well as specialist substrates. Its paper sales wing spans web, sheetfed and packaging papers.
The solar system spend involved a detailed structural and electrical assessment to determine the optimum installation area at the firm’s 9,290sqm building. It includes real-time production and consumption data.
Return on investment is expected to be “strong”.
Colombier UK is part of the Netherlands-headquartered Colombier Group, which also has operations in Finland and Spain.
