Tunisia awards 187 licenses to SMEs for 287 MW of solar PV project capacity – Green Building Africa

The Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy of Tunisia has issued 187 licenses to small and medium sized enterprises to develop a combined 287 MW of solar power capacity as part of the country’s fifth renewable energy tender round under its authorisation regime.
The projects are designed to expand private sector participation in Tunisia’s energy transition and will be implemented by local SMEs. Individual project sizes range from 1 MW to 10 MW, creating a distributed portfolio of solar installations across the country.
The programme forms part of the national strategy to increase the share of renewable energy in the power mix to 35% by 2030. Authorities said the strong response from developers reflects growing investor confidence in the Tunisian renewable energy market and a strategic effort to reduce the country’s reliance on natural gas imports.
The fifth authorisation round complements larger solar developments being rolled out through the concession framework. These include about 500 MW of utility scale solar capacity awarded to international developers such as Scatec and Voltalia. Read more
