MILTON — A long-planned solar project on town-owned land along Lamoille Terrace is moving into its next phase, with construction expected to begin this month.
At its April 6 meeting, the Milton Selectboard unanimously approved a measure related to financing for the project, ratifying a Landlord’s Release and Consent agreement tied to the solar array lease.
Planned for property near the town’s wastewater treatment facility, the solar array was first approved by the selectboard in 2025 as part of a lease agreement with a private developer. The 500-kilowatt ground-mounted system is intended to generate renewable energy and support the town’s long-term sustainability goals, helping to offset electricity use for town-owned facilities.
Town Manager Chris Taylor said the Landlord’s Release and Consent document is a standard banking requirement that allows a lender to reassign the lease if the developer defaults. The board’s vote formalized Taylor’s earlier signature on the agreement to meet a closing deadline.
Taylor also reported that Norwich Technology will take over construction of the project, which is expected to begin this month, marking a visible step forward after years of planning and delays.
