Meta developing an 800+ acre solar farm in Anderson County – KLTV.com

ANDERSON COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) – Meta has partnered with a developer to bring more than 850 acres of solar development to Anderson County.
The “Skull Creek” project is located in Tennessee Colony on FM 2054.
Work is underway on a solar farm as Meta works with developer Zelestra to convert the land into a solar energy facility.
“These solar panels are going to track the sun, so you end up being able to store more energy,” County Judge Carey McKinney said.
McKinney said projects like these help boost the Texas grid. The project would produce around 176 megawatts of energy.
“Didn’t have a clue until we spent the money and purchased the land,” said Kevin Pintsch, who lives near the project. “We moved out here ‘cause it was all trees and pastures and cows and cattle running around, and horses; now it’s going to be who knows what.”
The county has agreed to a tax abatement for the project. McKinney said the project will add anywhere from $90 million to $147 million to their tax base. For the first 10 years, developers will pay the county $109,000. The project sits in Cayuga ISD, which has not implemented an abatement, according to McKinney.
“If the county didn’t do a tax abatement, we would have no way to regulate them,” McKinney said.
He said that construction will start in June 2026, and is expected to be complete by August 2027. Construction jobs will employ about 90 people during that time.
McKinney said developers will have to support local firefighters with training and monetary support. They will also have to commit to road maintenance.
Developers expect the project to be online by August of next year. Around 90 local jobs are expected during the construction phase, which is expected to kick into gear this June.
