Australian renewable energy generator and retailer Flow Power has completed the construction and commissioning of three new solar and battery projects in South Australia, incorporating anti-hail PV modules and custom prefabricated power conversion components.
The three new projects – located in Monarto, Naracoorte, and Coonawarra in the state’s south east – each combine a 6 to 7 megawatt (MW) solar farm with a 5 MW/15 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS) and are all connected to existing 33kV SA Power Networks infrastructure.
Flow Power has developed and and will operate all three of the solar and battery projects over the course of their expected 30-year lifespan – and it has incorporated some technological innovations to help ensure the projects’ longevity and reliability.
“From incorporating anti-hail modules and Australian made steel to deploying custom prefabricated HV and inverter kiosks, we’ve embraced smart solutions at every stage,” said Flow Power design manager, John Maroney.
“Delivering and commissioning the projects with our own team showcases the capability we’ve built and our longterm commitment to renewable energy in Australia.”
Flow Power is also launching a bespoke energy retail offer for residents of Naracoorte and Coonawarra that the company says represents “a full cycle renewable energy offer, from generation to usage.”
Residents of Naracoorte and Coonawarra who take up the offer will receive a discount to their base energy rate and will also be able to virtually link their electricity usage to a real project in their region.
Flow Power says it now operates 85.3 MW of wind, solar, and hybrid assets across the state, adding to South Australia’s renewable energy supply and supporting grid reliability.
“Adding these new projects to our rapidly growing portfolio in South Australia is an exciting milestone for Flow Power,” said Byron Serjeantson, Flow Power’s chief operating officer.
“We’re proud to continue delivering great renewable energy projects, together with customer solutions that drive the renewable energy transition. Adding to that are some fantastic community benefit initiatives and one of the first projects in the NEM to use Australian-made steel.”
