SABIC, a Saudi Arabia-based chemical manufacturer, has launched NORYL V0150TW and V0150IR2 resins for photovoltaic applications. The products are the first laser-weldable thermoplastics developed for PV components including microinverters and solar enclosures. According to SABIC, the materials combine flame retardancy, weather resistance and sealing performance for outdoor applications. The company stated that the resins support up to 15 years of outdoor service and maintain mechanical integrity at temperatures up to 150 °C. Compared with metal enclosures, the materials can reduce part size by up to 40%, weight by up to 35% and material use by up to 30%. SABIC added that laser welding can reduce assembly cycle times by replacing curing-dependent bonding methods used in conventional manufacturing.
