SunPower Inc., a US-based solar technology, services, and installation company, has reported completion of a California campus PV installation through its Silicon Valley subsidiary, Cobalt Power Systems. The subsidiary has completed engineering and construction of three PV systems for Santa Clara University’s 106-acre campus. The installation has 1.2 MW of installed solar capacity and is expected to generate more than 2.1 million kWh annually. SunPower said the systems may provide ~$350,000 in annual energy savings and $8.8 million over a 25-year warrantied life. The work includes a solar super structure on the North Parking Garage, elevated solar carports at the Levey Parking Lot, and a roof-top array at the Athletic Excellence Center. Cobalt Power Systems said the systems were designed for full ADA compliance, future electric vehicle charging stations, and additional renewable energy expansion. The company also cited proximity to San Jose Mineta International Airport as a factor behind higher-level engineering and design standards. The completed systems have a payback period below six years before depreciation benefits.
