Iberdrola, an energy company based in Spain, has inaugrated the largest photovoltaic solar farm in Italy. The 243 MW Fénix solar farm is situated in Sicily and it spans across three towns namely Centuripe, Paternò and Belpasso. This solar farm will produce close to 400,000 MWh per year which will be enough to cover the energy requirements of more than 140,000 houses. The solar park uses over 413,000 bifacial photovoltaic panels and operates using medium and high voltage lines. More than 500 professionals worked on construction at peak activity. Most of the plant’s output is covered through long-term PPAs with Italian companies, supporting energy cost stability for industrial users.
