CS PowerTech has developed a reputation for being in many groundbreaking projects, so it was not overly surprising when the company announced the official opening of the first phase of its flagship PV cell manufacturing facility at the River Ridge Commerce Center in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
The Jeffersonville PV Cells facility is a core part of CS PowerTech’s U.S. manufacturing platform, reshoring essential advanced manufacturing, enhancing U.S. supply-chain strength, and supporting the nation’s energy security. According to Canadian Solar’s press release, Jeffersonville PVCells is the first American PV cell facility that is specifically constructed to produce industry-leading heterojunction (HJT) bifacial N-type solar cells.
In partnership with CS PowerTech’s module manufacturing plant in Mesquite, Texas, the Jefferson facility can establish a more local, vertically integrated supply chain that serves its customers and strengthens critical U.S. energy infrastructure.
Over the past 25 years, Canadian Solar has successfully delivered almost 177 GW of premium-quality solar photovoltaic modules to customers worldwide, making it an essential company during the clean energy transition.
Indiana is one of the fastest-growing solar energy-producing states in the United States, with companies like CS PowerTech playing a huge part. At full capacity, the facility is expected to produce more than 6 GWp per year and support more than 1,200 skilled manufacturing, engineering, and technical jobs in Southern Indiana.
Additionally, it reflects almost $1 billion in local investment. Following the establishment of the facility, there was a massive amount of optimism at the company, with Rusty Schmit, President of CS PowerTech Inc., stating the following:
“Jeffersonville is a cornerstone of our strategy to build one of North America’s most advanced energy manufacturing supply chains. This facility will produce next-generation HJT solar cells, support domestic manufacturing, and ultimately strengthen grid reliability as our customers deploy the products.”
For Canadian Solar officials, the Jefferson facility displays the company’s dedication to scaling one of the world’s most advanced solar technologies in the United States. Heterojunction (HJT) bifacial N-type solar cells are seen as highly essential for the next generation of high-efficiency, high-performance solar modules, with the plant giving CS PowerTech the ability to deliver leading technology and enhanced energy yield.
