Project will become the country’s first embedded solar IRESS facility.
Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC) and Pampanga 1 Electric Cooperative (PELCO I) have broken ground on a 41MWp embedded solar power project in Magalang, Pampanga.
The project will include a 53MWh battery energy storage system, making it the Philippines’ first embedded solar facility with an Integrated Renewable Energy and Energy Storage System (IRESS).
The facility is expected to be completed in the second half of 2027 and will supply clean energy to consumers within the PELCO I franchise area.
“Citicore’s long-standing partnership with PELCO I since 2024 is really about creating tailor-fit energy solutions meant to ease the burden of soaring electricity costs to the cooperative’s member-consumer-owners,” said Jerard Garcia, president of Citicore Energy Solutions, Inc.
Embedded solar projects connected directly to electric cooperatives can help reduce system losses, lower electricity costs, and support compliance with the government’s Renewable Portfolio Standards.
In July, CREC and Landbank signed a ₱4.05b project finance loan facility agreement to develop two embedded solar projects, including the PELCO I facility.
The project will be CREC’s third solar development in Pampanga, following the 115MWp Arayat-Mexico Solar Farm, which started operations in 2022, and the 42MWp Citicore Solar Pampanga 1, which was energised in 2025.
