EDF power solutions secures PPAs with NV Energy for 400 MW solar-plus-storage project – pv magazine USA

EDF power solutions North America has signed two 25-year power purchase agreements with utility NV Energy for the combined output of the Winston Energy Project, a new 400 MW/1,600 MWh utility-scale solar and energy storage facility in Lyon County, Nevada.
EDF said the installation is slated to begin delivering electricity in October 2029, and will employ more than 400 workers during the peak construction phase. The project is expected to generate roughly 1.11 GWh of renewable energy annually and result in $100 million in local tax revenue.
The project is situated near the planned path of NV Energy’s Greenlink North transmission line, a 525 kV line that will span approximately 235 miles from Ely, NV, to Yerington, NV and is expected to be in service by December 2028.
“We are delighted by our continued partnership with NV Energy and ability to contribute paired solar and storage solutions which provide efficient, sustainable, and reliable energy to its customers,” said Jacqueline de Fresart, associate director of origination and power marketing at EDF power solutions North America.
EDF power solutions North America, an arm of the French state-backed utility giant EDF Group, has completed the development of 26 GW of power generation projects in the North American market, and currently reports a pipeline of 55 GW in projects.
In addition to the Winston Energy Project, the company touts a Nevada footprint of 734 MW of solar generation capacity and 1,155 MWh of battery energy storage across two currently operating facilities and one project under development. The company’s projects represent a significant portion of the 8.24 GW total installed solar capacity reported in Nevada by SEIA.
In June, EDF power solutions North America announced a deal to be acquired by global investment firm KKR. At the time, KKR managing director Cecilio Velasco said KKR’s investment in EDF Power Solutions North America supports the critical need for affordable power,” and added, “EDF Power Solutions North America’s scale, operational track record, and integrated capabilities position it to meet that demand, particularly through its diversified portfolio and project pipeline.”
