Ecoprogetti has successfully recommissioned the Ener-G-Africa (EGA) PV Solar Manufacturing Plant in South Africa, transforming a stalled production line into a fully operational panel (module) factory. The intervention, described by the company as a “Project Rescue”, addressed critical integration and performance failures that had prevented the plant from meeting its production targets after initial installation by another supplier.
EGA South Africa is an emerging domestic player focused on building local photovoltaic manufacturing to support the country’s energy transition and industrial growth. When Ecoprogetti became involved, the facility already had equipment installed, but the line consisted of heterogeneous machines from multiple vendors with weak integration and no single party accountable for overall performance. As a result, the system failed its Site Acceptance Test, suffered from process bottlenecks, and could not deliver PV modules at the expected output levels.
Ecoprogetti’s approach centred on recovering, optimising and relaunching the plant while minimising additional capital outlay. The team carried out a detailed technical assessment to pinpoint critical issues, then implemented targeted actions to eliminate bottlenecks and improve production flow. New testing equipment for quality control was supplied, including ECOSUN NOVA solar simulators and ECOLAB electroluminescence testers, alongside an automatic interconnection machine, ECOBUSSING, to strengthen module assembly. The entire production line was revamped with a focus on performance and stability, supported by continuous on‑site services during installation and restart. Ecoprogetti also provided comprehensive IEC certification support, including in‑house certification for PV “golden modules” and factory inspection assistance.
The result is a fully installed and operational plant with restored and enhanced performance, ensuring production continuity, improved efficiency and a solid base for future growth. Laura Sartore, CEO of Ecoprogetti, said the project went beyond a technical fix, restoring value and turning a critical situation into a concrete opportunity for investment recovery and risk mitigation. She emphasised that Ecoprogetti acts as a true partner, taking responsibility for daily production regardless of whether equipment originates from its own portfolio or third parties, with the core goal of guaranteeing continuous output of high‑quality PV modules.
The case underlines the importance of system integration in photovoltaic manufacturing investments. Relying on non‑manufacturing intermediaries, used‑machine dealers or fragmented suppliers can introduce significant risks when system integration, quality compliance and long‑term support are not fully ensured. A photovoltaic production line is a complex, interdependent system that requires a single experienced partner capable of guaranteeing performance, reliability and continuity.
