Amphenol Industrial Operations has expanded its H4 solar connector range with the H4 Plus P2KV, a 2000V connector aimed at next-generation photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage systems.
The new connector is designed for higher-voltage solar architectures and supports 2000V DC operation with 6 AWG / 16 mm² photovoltaic cable, targeting larger utility-scale installations, longer cable runs and higher-power system designs.
The launch highlights the industry’s ongoing shift beyond conventional 1500V solar architectures. Moving to 2000V can increase power per string and potentially reduce cabling, parallel circuits and other balance-of-system components, making connector performance an increasingly important part of system design.
The H4 Plus P2KV is rated at up to 65A under ETL certification and 70A under TÜV certification at 85°C. Typical contact resistance is specified at no more than 0.25 mΩ, helping to limit electrical losses in demanding PV and energy storage applications.
Amphenol is positioning the connector for utility-scale and commercial solar installations, including module string connections, combiner and junction boxes, compatible inverter DC interfaces and solar-plus-storage systems.
The move comes as solar developers and equipment suppliers look for ways to increase system voltage while keeping conductor losses and overall infrastructure requirements under control. Higher-voltage strings can allow more modules to be connected in series, although the resulting system-level benefits depend on the wider electrical architecture.
For environmental protection, the H4 Plus P2KV is rated to IP65 and IP68 when properly mated, with IP2X protection when unmated. The connector uses UV-resistant thermoplastic materials and carries a UL94-V0 flame classification, while also meeting RoHS and REACH requirements.
Amphenol offers the connector in both field-installable and preassembled versions, giving system manufacturers and installers options for factory and on-site integration.
The company also provides dedicated tools for stripping, crimping, inspection, torque control and unlocking, intended to support repeatable installation and connection quality.
The P2KV expands Amphenol Industrial Operations’ established H4 family into higher-voltage and higher-power applications as the solar industry begins adopting 2000V DC architectures.
By retaining the environmental protection and low-resistance characteristics expected from the existing H4 platform, Amphenol is targeting solar and energy storage projects where higher operating voltage is becoming part of the drive to reduce system costs and increase installation efficiency.
