CARTERET – A community solar project proposed for a Carteret warehouse could bring locally generated renewable energy to area residents.
Carteret Solar 3 LLC is scheduled to appear before the borough Zoning Board of Adjustment on Sept. 15 to seek approvals for the project at 50 Bryla St. The meeting will be conducted by videoconference.
The applicant is seeking minor site plan approval and a use variance to install a community solar facility on the roof of an existing warehouse property in the borough’s light industrial zone, where solar arrays are not permitted as a principal use.

Plans call for solar panels to cover most of the warehouse rooftop.
Electricity generated by the panels would be routed to ground-mounted equipment on the property before connecting to the electrical grid. The power would then be made available to residential customers in the area through the community solar program.
If approved, the project would add a renewable energy source to an existing industrial site without requiring additional land for a ground-mounted solar facility.
