No Injuries Reported After Self-Installed Solar Panels Cause Chesapeake Beach Townhouse Fire – Southern Maryland News Net

On Monday, September 14, 2026, at 8:31 p.m., firefighters from North Beach, Dunkirk, Huntingtown and Anne Arundel Fire Departments were dispatched to the 8100 block of Moffat Run in Chesapeake Beach, for the reported house on fire.
Crews arrived on the scene find fire showing from the rear of the reported address and requested a working fire dispatch, which alerted additional firefighters from Calvert, Anne Arundel, and Prince George’s County.
Firefighters deployed multiple attack lines and entered the residence to find fire on the first and second floor. Crews extinguished all visible fire then entered the adjacent homes to check for extensions, as fire had extended up the exterior and into the attic.
Approximately 65 firefighters responded to the scene. The fire was contained mainly to the initial reporting address. Adjoining units suffered some fire, smoke and water damage.
The homes are equipped with automatic fire sprinklers. Fire sprinklers did activate on the second floor, preventing extension into the upper floor bedroom on the rear of the house.
There were no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire was determined to be from a self-installed solar panel system. The American Red Cross was called to assist with the displaced occupants from the reporting address and the adjoining addresses on either side.
The North Beach VFD wants to extend a sincere thank you to our response partners and remind everyone to use proper installation and maintenance procedures when installing any electrical equipment.
