The results of France’s latest solar tenders were announced on Oct. 7 by Maud Bregeon, the country’s minister delegate for energy, during the France Renouvelables national conference. However, the official results have yet to be published by either the French government or the energy regulator, CRE.
Bregeon said the tender for ground-mounted PV projects awarded 930 MW of capacity across 125 projects. The weighted average price fell to €60 ($67.40)/MWh, down from approximately €80/MWh in the previous round.
Prices also declined significantly in the tender for smaller PV installations ranging from 100 kW to 500 kW, with the average price falling to €75/MWh.
Bregeon said the price declines reflected the “competitiveness gains achieved by the sector.” She reiterated the government’s intention to reduce subsidies, arguing that support mechanisms should not generate excessive profits.
“We must not create windfall profits,” she said, calling on the industry to capitalize on falling costs to build “a solid foundation for the future.”
Bregeon said the next challenge for the renewable energy sector would be to demonstrate its ability to manage flexibility. The issue is expected to feature prominently in the government’s forthcoming electrification plan.
She also confirmed that France plans to launch a technology-neutral tender in early 2027.
In the previous round of the ground-mounted PV tender, announced in September 2025, the French government awarded 971 MW of capacity across 165 projects at an average price of €79.48/MWh, slightly above the €79.09/MWh recorded in the preceding round. The newly announced price of €60/MWh represents a decline of approximately 24.5%.
A similar trend emerged in the 100 kW to 500 kW segment. France’s first simplified tender for rooftop solar installations and carports, held in 2025, selected 157 projects totaling 43.5 MW at an average price of €88.73/MWh, against a ceiling of €95/MWh. The tender was heavily undersubscribed, attracting just 82.1 MW of bids for the 192 MW on offer. The newly announced average price of €75/MWh represents a decline of approximately 15.5% compared with that initial round.
