Ameresco and Roseburg Urban Sanitary Authority Complete $1M Solar and Battery Storage Project in Oregon – citybiz

Ameresco, Inc. (NYSE: AMRC) and the Roseburg Urban Sanitary Authority (RUSA) have completed a $1 million solar and battery storage project at RUSA’s main office in Roseburg, Oregon, marking the first phase of a broader energy infrastructure modernization initiative.
The project includes a 39.4-kilowatt DC solar photovoltaic system expected to generate approximately 51,580 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to offset 100% of the main office’s electricity consumption.
The installation also features a 184-kilowatt-hour battery energy storage system designed to maintain essential administrative and operational functions during power outages.
Funding included an $870,870 grant from the Oregon Department of Energy’s Community Renewable Energy Program, along with support from the Energy Trust of Oregon.
The completed installation is the first of three planned projects intended to improve energy reliability, reduce operating costs and support wastewater management operations across RUSA’s facilities.
“Partnering with Ameresco allows us to modernize our facilities, safeguarding the long-term well-being of our community as a result,” said Jim Baird, General Manager of RUSA.
“Through smarter energy use and resilient infrastructure investments, we’re advancing reliable wastewater management while ensuring continued service for our customers in both everyday operations and critical situations.”
The next two phases will involve installing a 900-kilowatt ground-mounted solar system at RUSA’s wastewater treatment plant and a 400-kilowatt floating solar system at its natural treatment system.
Construction on both projects is expected to begin in fall 2026.
Together, the three installations are designed to strengthen energy resilience across facilities responsible for wastewater treatment and related services in the Roseburg area.
“Operating a wastewater treatment facility requires substantial energy consumption, which is why RUSA’s initiative and others like it are so important to build a more efficient energy future,” said Louis Maltezos, Co-President of Ameresco.
The broader initiative has received two 2026 Best of the Best Awards from the Oregon Association of Clean Water Agencies and the 2026 Excellence in Resource Recovery & Sustainability Award from the Pacific Northwest Clean Water Association.
Ameresco, headquartered in Massachusetts, provides energy infrastructure, efficiency and modernization services to public and private sector customers across North America and Europe.
Since its founding in 2000, the company reports delivering more than $15 billion in solutions and contracting over 5 gigawatts of energy resources.
The Roseburg project adds to Ameresco’s portfolio of renewable energy and infrastructure upgrades for public agencies, with additional solar installations planned to support RUSA’s wastewater operations.
