French lightweight photovoltaic module maker Heliup has teamed up with Elevate, a Holcim Group brand focused on waterproofing and insulation, to introduce Solar Light TPO, an offering that pairs Heliup’s lightweight Stykon PV modules with Holcim’s UltraPly TPO waterproofing membrane, according to pv magazine.
The membrane is offered in thicknesses of 1.5 mm, 1.8 mm and 2 mm, with the thickest version positioned for roofs that need regular maintenance and servicing.
Solar Light TPO has a weight of 7 kg/m2, compared with 15 kg/m2 to 20 kg/m2 for conventional systems when the waterproofing membrane is included. Its mounting approach does away with roof penetrations, additional rails and ballast.
Jean-Luc Roudaut, director of new photovoltaic market development at Holcim, told the publication that this enables PV systems to be installed on flat roofs that were previously hard to equip, notably commercial, industrial and logistics buildings as well as public facilities.
The system is designed to work with a range of roof designs, including pitched roofs, sawtooth roofs with slopes reaching 100%, and curved surfaces. It can be used in new construction and in roof waterproofing renovations.
Roudaut said the two companies’ profiles are highly complementary, allowing them to draw on multiple routes to market depending on specific needs: a network of waterproofing contractors and project managers on Holcim’s side, and project owners, solar industry participants and developers on Heliup’s side.
Solar Light TPO has secured an Enquete de Technique Nouvelle, a French technical assessment for innovative construction systems, along with a Broof (t3) fire classification. The system also satisfies French regulatory requirements for buildings open to the public, known as ERP, and for facilities classified for environmental protection, known as ICPE.
Julien Gaume, technical director at Heliup, said the ETN allows photovoltaic panels to be installed up to two years after the membrane is laid, providing the flexibility to renovate a roof first and add solar capacity later to meet regulatory obligations.
In March, Heliup raised EUR16 million, equivalent to USD17.9 million, to speed up large-scale deployment of its lightweight PV technology. The company said the funds will reinforce its commercial teams, expand production capacity at its French industrial site, prepare replicable industrial units and continue technology development.
Based in Le Bourget-du-Lac in France’s Savoie region, Heliup runs a 4,000 m2 factory in Le Cheylas, Isere, which has been operational since January 2025. The facility can produce up to 100 MW per year, equivalent to roughly 500,000 m2 of panels.
Heliup launched a 10 MW pilot production line in 2023 under the France 2030 program and had previously raised EUR10 million. In 2025, it moved to industrial-scale production with backing from the European Union’s Innovation Fund through the Solar HEliup Energy for Flat roofTop, or SHEEFT, project.
This report provides an in-depth analysis of the Solar Panels market in France, covering market size, growth trajectory, demand structure, supply capability, trade flows, pricing, competitive landscape, and forecast to 2035.
The study is designed for manufacturers, distributors, importers, exporters, investors, procurement teams, advisors, and strategy teams that need a consistent, data-driven view of market dynamics and a transparent analytical definition of the product scope.
This report covers photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, which are devices that convert sunlight directly into electricity. It encompasses the global market for finished modules, including all major product technologies and form factors designed for a wide range of end-use applications.
The report combines the standard market-statistics backbone with strategic chapters that are useful for commercial planning, sourcing decisions, market entry, competitor monitoring, and portfolio prioritization.
The market is segmented into decision-relevant buckets so that demand drivers, pricing logic, supply constraints, and competitive positions can be compared across the same analytical frame.
The market data is classified and analyzed according to international trade codes, primarily under the Harmonized System (HS) headings for photovoltaic cells and electric generating sets. This ensures consistent tracking of trade flows for assembled solar modules and relevant apparatus across global markets.
Coverage focuses on France and includes demand, supply capability where present, trade flows, pricing, competition, and outlook.
The report combines official statistics, trade records, company disclosures, product-level evidence, and analyst validation. Data are standardized, reconciled, and cross-checked to keep market sizing, trade flows, pricing, and forecasts comparable across countries and time periods.
All indicators are mapped to a consistent product definition and reviewed against the segmentation framework used in the Table of Contents.
