[SMM PV News] Construction begins on Ulanqab Jingda 1.5 GW large-scale wind and solar power base project – Shanghai Metals Market

On October 28, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ulanqab Jingda 1500 MW "wind-solar-thermal-storage integrated" large-scale wind and PV base project was held in Fengzhen. Zhang Yongjun, member of the Standing Committee of the Fengzhen Municipal Party Committee and Executive Vice Mayor; Zhang Wei, Party Secretary of Beijing Jingneng Power Co., Ltd.; Wang Lei, Deputy Director of the Planning and Development Department of GD Power Development Co., Ltd.; along with other personnel from the Fengzhen municipal government, Jingneng Power, and GD Power, as well as representatives of participating construction units, attended the event.
The Ulanqab Jingda 1500 MW "wind-solar-thermal-storage integrated" large-scale wind and PV base project is jointly invested and constructed by Beijing Jingneng Power Co., Ltd. and GD Power Development Co., Ltd. It was included in the third batch of large-scale desert-Gobi-wasteland wind and solar base list of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in 2023. It is a key national project for large-scale desert-Gobi-wasteland wind and solar bases, as well as a benchmark project for Jingneng Group and Jingneng Power to deepen Beijing-Inner Mongolia energy coordinated development and advance the "green electricity to Beijing" strategy.
The project has a total installed capacity of 1.5 million kW, including 1.2 million kW of wind power and 300,000 kW of PV, with supporting energy storage facilities of 225,000 kW/4 hours. Leveraging existing thermal power, it builds a multi-energy complementary system in which wind, solar, and storage generate power while thermal power serves as the backstop. The electricity generated is transmitted through the 500 kV "Jinglong-Datong-Fangshan" corridor into the northern Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei power grid for consumption.
