Ground is broken on a 2,200-acre solar farm being constructed in far southeast Arkansas. The 250-megawatt Cypress Knee Solar energy project in Chicot County is the product of EDP Renewables North America.
EDP has a long-term power purchase agreement with Meta and is expected to be completed by 2028 and generate approximately $25 million in new revenue for Chicot County over its lifetime.
“Breaking ground at Cypress Knee Solar marks an important milestone for the project and for Arkansas’ growing role in America’s energy future,” said Sandhya Ganapathy, CEO of EDP Renewables North America. “As energy demand continues to rise, projects like Cypress Knee Solar help strengthen grid reliability while creating jobs, generating meaningful local revenue, and delivering long-term benefits to the communities that host them. We are proud to partner with Meta and local stakeholders to advance new energy infrastructure that supports economic growth and American energy independence.”
The project supports Meta’s commitment to matching 100% of its annual electricity use with clean and renewable energy generation.

At peak construction, the project is expected to support several hundred jobs, providing opportunities for local workers, contractors, and suppliers. Once operational, Cypress Knee Solar will contribute substantial tax revenue that can help fund schools, infrastructure improvements, emergency services, and other community priorities throughout Chicot County.
EDPR NA has also invested in local community initiatives during the project’s development, contributing more than $77,000 to organizations and programs in Chicot County, including support for the restoration of the Lakeside High School greenhouse, resources for the Lakeside Robotics team, and funding for the Lake Village food pantry.
