According to AggBusiness, a new floating solar power plant has been inaugurated to supply energy for Holcim’s industrial operations. The facility is situated on a rehabilitated lake in a former chalk quarry.
The project, described as Europe’s largest floating solar plant, was developed by TotalEnergies for its partner Holcim. A company representative stated that the initiative showcases an innovative approach to supporting industrial customers in reducing their carbon emissions.
The installation has an annual production capacity of 30 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity. Its connection required extensive horizontal directional drilling to link the solar panels to the power substation.
