L’Hospitalet de l’Infant has premiered on the canopies of the public car park of L’Arenal a collective residential self-consumption photovoltaic solar plant with 195 panels and capacity to serve about 50 homes and businesses in the area. The installation adds up to 89.7 kWh and anticipates an annual production of approximately 122,153 kWh.
The plant is already finished, but it does not yet inject energy. The works finished in July and the City Council is now completing the procedures with the distribution company to launch a project conceived precisely to supply nearby consumption within a radius of five kilometers.
This is the second installation of these characteristics promoted by the council in the municipality.
The previous one was located on the roof of the municipal nursery and will come into operation in the coming months. With the new plant, the City Council expands the energy use of existing facilities in two different locations in L’Hospitalet de l’Infant.
The municipal plenary session approved on January 29 the concession of the L’Arenal car park roof to the municipal company IDETSA for a period of 25 years to assume its management. That agreement set the framework for deploying an installation that takes advantage of an already built public infrastructure.
The action has involved an investment of 256,641 euros, financed entirely with resources from the Nuclear Transition Fund.
Marc Alberton, councilor for Economic Promotion, framed the action within the municipal energy strategy. In the words of the councilor, it represents a further step in the City Council’s commitment to a more sustainable energy model, based on renewable energies, emission reduction, and the use of existing public spaces.
In addition to the impact on shared consumption, the project is based on a formula that is gaining presence in other facilities with solar panels, such as the solar panels of Mercavallès. In this case, the L’Arenal installation is oriented towards collective residential and local commercial self-consumption.
The City Council will present the operation of this collective self-consumption model on July 28 at the Sala Bonet Castellana.
