The Plano Plan Commission is continuing to work on its recommendation for the proposed Savion Solar Project.
Another meeting has been scheduled for September 8th, from 6pm-9pm, with the location still to be determined.
Residents- many of whom mentioned having been a part of the community for multiple years & even decades- spoke about their concerns over how the project may impact their families and properties. Little Rock township representatives continue to argue that the project is illegal, due to a 2025 ordnance banning solar projects in the township. Chris Wykes says Plano is aware.
“We did what we thought was constitutionally correct. We sent our affidavits. We were totally ignored. And when you totally ignore it, then you’re saying that what we are presenting is correct.”
There were attendees speaking in support of the project as well- many working for, or with, Savion. Such as Will Stattman, of Black Dirt Farms LLC- and property owner where the project is set to be located- who clams the project will create hundreds of well paying jobs, generate tens of millions of dollars in property taxes, invest several hundred million dollars into the city, as well as support the school district
“From the numbers I’ve seen, the Plano School District will get approximately one million dollars per year from Plano Skies or about thirty five million dollars over the life of the project. This money can be used to hire more teachers and improve the facilities. The project will be helping students as soon as it is up and running. Funding like this makes a real difference in graduation rates and lifetime success for students and I know it’ll make Plano a better community.”
The plan commission will vote on a recommendation for the Plano City Council, which will make the final decision on the project.
