The install features 8,824 Trinasolar Vertex S+ 510W (NEG18R.28) modules, with the airport’s rooftop PV install spanning the main terminal roof, both piers and covered car park walkways.

Smart Commercial Energy worked alongside electrical contractor Heyday 5, and builder Multiplex, to deliver the install. Given the airport location, the project required detailed glare studies to protect pilots and air traffic control from reflection.
“Having worked with Smart Commercial Energy for more than a decade, we’re proud to partner with them on another significant Australian infrastructure project,” said Edison Zhou, Head of Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands at Trinasolar.
“For EPCs, reliability and bankability are critical. We combine globally proven solar technology with dedicated Australian after-sales support, giving our partners confidence in both the products they install and the manufacturer behind them.”
“This is one of the biggest solar installations on an airport in Australia, and a genuinely complex project,” said Ben Adamson, Head of Projects and Performance at Smart Commercial Energy, who led the delivery team. “I’m really proud of what our team and partners delivered, on time and on budget.”
“Renewable energy and world class infrastructure aren’t a trade-off, they’re part of the same project,” said Huon Hoogesteger, Managing Director of Smart Commercial Energy.
Trinasolar and Smart Commercial Energy’s decade-long partnership includes the Goulburn Community Solar Farm, recipient of the 2026 Clean Energy Council Community Value and Impact Award.
