CLEARFIELD — A Lancaster County company is planning to place a solar array in the Glen Richey area.
At Tuesday night’s meeting of the Lawrence Township Planning Commission, township Code Enforcement Officer Agatha Lauder reported Paradise Energy Solutions of Paradise, Lancaster County, has submitted an application for a land development plan to construct a 1,447.68 kW ground mount solar array at 500 Kauffman Road to produce electricity for the electrical grid.
The property is located in the Rural Agriculture zoning district.
ARM Group LLC of State College is the engineering firm for the project, Lauder said.
It is a 20-acre lot and the solar array would be placed on 5.1 acres of the property, according to Lauder.
The facility would be built on non-forested previously mined land and would have minimal impact on tree cover, according to the application.
The project would use 2,496 Silfab 580 watt solar panels with five Solectria inverters mounted on a SDE (Sinclair Designs & Engineering) ground racking system, according to the application.
The site would have vegetative screening on three sides of the property closest to Kauffman Road, and the solar array would be surrounded by security fencing, according to the application.
Lauder recommended the planning commission table the application because it is incomplete and she recommended the planning commission request that the supervisors send the application to its engineer, Stiffler McGraw & Associates of Hollidaysburg, for review. The planning commission voted unanimously to approve Lauder’s recommendations.
Planning commission members Dave Nelson, Jeff Thorp, and Jacob Hiller were in attendance while Michael Vaow and Tyler German were absent.
In 2023, the Lawrence Township Board of Supervisors approved the conditional use application a solar facility along 104th Cavalry Road, according to a previous article.
However, it was never constructed due to inadequate capacity in the electrical grid in the area, Lauder said.
