Navitas Solar Announces 5 GWh BESS Factory With Mecpower – TaiyangNews

Mecpower Solutions and Navitas Solar have announced plans to establish a 5 GWh BESS manufacturing facility in Gujarat
The facility will serve utility-scale, commercial, and industrial applications
The partnership will support their own projects and also cater to market demand
Indian solar PV manufacturer Navitas Solar is venturing into the energy storage space. In collaboration with renewable energy EPC company Mecpower Solutions, it will establish a 5 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility in Gujarat.
To be located in Karjan, the factory will produce storage solutions for utility-scale renewable energy projects and commercial and industrial (C&I) applications. It is scheduled to start commercial operations in Q1 FY2027-28.
Mecpower offers its project development, engineering, and execution experience to the partnership, while Navitas brings its manufacturing capabilities.
The output from this facility is expected to support their own respective EPC deployments and meet demand from other energy storage projects.
Calling BESS a critical component of the power sector, Navitas Solar’s Anikt Singhania said the partnership will expand its manufacturing capabilities and also contribute to the development of scalable storage solutions in the country.
Navitas Solar joins a slew of PV manufacturers entering the BESS space as they diversify their portfolios and revenue streams while tapping growing demand for energy storage. Manufacturers aim to position themselves as providers of integrated clean energy solutions. Waaree Energies commenced production at its BESS container factory in July 2026 with plans to achieve 20 GWh (see Waaree ESS Starts 5.15 GWh BESS Container Facility In India).
Premier Energies has joined hands with Germany’s RCT to establish 12 GWh BESS production capacity (see Premier Energies & RCT Finalize 12 GWh BESS Manufacturing Deal).
Vikram Solar is another PV manufacturer that recently unveiled plans to set up a 7.5 GWh BESS factory in Tamil Nadu, with plans to expand it to 15 GWh in phases. The company said last year that it plans to set up a 1 GWh solid-state cell and battery manufacturing facility with proprietary battery management system (BMS) technology, with plans to scale it up to 5 GWh.
